About this certification

Build a credential that gives your experience greater visibility

The ACTFL Reading Proficiency Test (RPT) is a standardized, proficiency-based assessment designed to measure how well an individual understands written language in the target language. The assessment evaluates reading comprehension across a range of proficiency levels without the use of dictionaries, reference grammars, or other language resources. The RPT assesses interpretive reading ability using authentic texts that vary in genre, content, length, and complexity. Results are reported using the ACTFL Proficiency Scale and may also be reported using the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) or Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) scales.
